[57] IMMINENT DEATH
Cough. cough.
I turned to Liliath.
She was coughing.. it had been what? Two days now, and it only looks to be getting worse by the day. Her complexion was pale, and she was tired all the time.
She was reading a book talking about productivity. Thinking fast and thinking slow. She asked me about it so I borrowed it to her.
Actually, if I really think about it, having Liliath study the normal educational material like mathematics and science is itself— a pretty bad thing. I mean, it’s not like it provides many benefits. If another person tells me that it would help her learn the common sense of this world— I would reply with how she asked me: why balls? Why were balls used to represent planets and atoms and…
I couldn’t reply to her question. Ask the scientist— I’m totally clueless alright? And why balls? There were so many different questions she could have asked me so why something so suggestive?
The eight wonders of Liliath’s mind— it shall forever remain a mystery.
On the topic, I found out that the school that has to be attended by troublesome students like me and Liliath is called Mondai High. And as you can probably tell, it literally translates to ‘Problem High’. Greeeat naming sense.
Sigh.. it’s not like everyone invited to that school has a bad or problematic TALENT per se so..
Again, thinking about it, I wonder how they would go about Liliath’s education? I mean.. since everyone in Mondai high is technically 16 years old and above because that is literally when TALENTS manifest in the individual, Liliath is only 14 years old.
Or at least— that was what I would like to think. She said she lost count due to the unknown amount of time being locked up, but that was a rough estimate.
But age isn't really the issue because Liliath has absolutely no foundational knowledge of how this world works. In the end, we decided that Liliath would have to eat the ‘Common Sense I’ skill book when the time comes.
Well.. at worst, Liliath can become a doctor and heal everyone with a single touch— or at scale with an AOE spell.
Cough. Cough.
Liliath’s coughing spells.
She started taking medicine when we came back from the open-air market, but it didn’t seem all that effective. In any case, we’ll be visiting the doctor again today for Liliath’s second vaccine jab.
“Liliath.”
“Yes?” Her voice came out weak and kind of rough.
“Remember to tell us if your condition is getting worse alright?”
Liliath nodded her head, smiling slightly with her sleepy eyes.
===
“This is to be expected since the vaccine would cause the body to react. She needs a few days of rest,” the doctor said, with the big egg glasses, Doctor Trisha. “But— if her condition gets any worse, bring her to the hospital right away,” she stressed.
“I understand,” my father replied in response.
Liliath who had gotten her second dose sat on the chair staring blankly at the wall. Every now and then she would cough or yawn.
“Paracetamol can help with the symptoms but don’t take antibiotics. It’ll reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine.”
With that as the last advice, we returned home, Liliath in tow. She slept in the car. I’m worried, but— the doctor said it was a normal reaction so..
I held my hands up to her forehead and as expected, it was abnormally hot. Even her breath was rather feverish. Her once pale complexion was now flushed.
I don't have much knowledge regarding disease so I can't help but think of the negatives. Liliath is going to be alright.. She's going to be alright.
Back home, my mom made porridge for lunch, Liliath drifted off to sleep while sitting with her back straight mid-meal, quite skillful at that.
“Liliath, how about you have some medicine and take a nap?” my mom shook her shoulders to wake her up.
“S-sorry. I-I will do as proposed,” Liliath said, coughing again.
Taking the medicine in the ‘appropriate’ way, which was swallowing it with water rather than chewing it like the first time she did, my mom brought her upstairs.
“Don’t you find it odd?” my father said.
“Odd what?” Novelle questioned.
“I don't know if it’s normal for demon lords to get sick,” I said. I think this was what my father is referring to. I do find it odd myself.
“That’s one thing, another thing is that Liliath came to this world without immunity. So it's a weird time to be sick.”
“Maybe it’s because we went to the hospital last time?”
“Maybe.. I have a hunch. Honestly Noel, I think your TALENT is a lot more profound than you think. Try to learn what exactly it is, maybe it is related to this ‘event’— from a drama point of view..”
“What? What do you mean by that?”
“Don't you think the coincidences are weird? In the first place, falling for each other in such a short time makes no sense, you know Noel?”
“Yeah, that’s right! You two are so lovey dovey the moment you met!”
Hearing my father speak about his opinion, and the little devil’s crappy summary of my relationship with Liliath, I couldn’t find the words to reply.
Yeah, like he said, it’s too weird. Ever since Liliath entered my life, it has become like a fictional world. Coincidences here; coincidences there. And most importantly, my interactions with Liliath..
It’s too unrealistic…
I hadn’t ever considered what my father had said at all.
‘You can’t trust me.’
Those words rang in my mind again.
What did she mean by that?
Also, my TALENT. It’s true that I still don't really understand what it actually is..
===
Squeeze. Drip. Drip.
Dipping the cloth into the bucket of water, taking it out and then squeezing the excess water, I folded it again before placing it down on Liliath’s forehead.
“Thank you,” she muttered in a sleepy voice, her eyes closed.
Rolled up in a blanket and on top of my sister’s bed, her face was flushed and she was sweating.
Can demon lords become sick? How about magic?
“Liliath, when was the last time you got sick?”
With an exhale she replied, “It waas a rather.. long time ago. I think it was back when I was 4 years of age.”
“Hm.. sorry if I’m asking the impossible here but— you can't use healing magic on yourself?”
She shook her head, “It would be nice if I could. Cough. Healers can heal everyone besides themselves, that’s why. Cough. It’s common for them to form a group of two in a party..”
“I see..”
If Liliath could cure herself with magic— that would be amazing wouldn’t it now? Too bad it’s not possible. I think I've heard somewhere in a light novel a quote that said healing oneself is like picking up oneself and then throwing oneself, which is impossible… though in most cases, characters in novels should be able to heal themselves using magic. A weird world she came from.
“Can I. Cough. Ask for some water,” Liliath said, trying to get up.
“Here,” making sure she doesn’t fall, I supported her as she drank from a bottle.
“Thank you,” Liliath made no effort to look at me since she was already struggling to keep her focus and just laid back down on the bed. “I’ll rest a little longer..”
“Alright. Take care, have a good nap.”
I left the room.
===
I helped my mom in the kitchen. In a small pot was some leftover porridge from the afternoon, reheated with extra ingredients to hopefully improve the taste. Well.. the portion wasn’t a lot, about 2 people’s worth but it’s mainly for Liliath.
With the table cloth, I brought the pot to the kitchen table, settling it onto the metal coaster.
“Novelle, can you check on Liliath? Can she eat?” I looked at the little devil, with two hands on her chin while she looked at me withupturned eyes.
“A-okay,” hearing my words, her expression turned to a serious one as she left for her own room where Liliath was.
Father came into the dining room, stretching his arms up into the air. He had probably just finished work in his office, seeing his languid but satisfied expression.
“So what’s for dinner?”
“Leftover porridge or a new batch of rice with some stir-fried meat in soy sauce and bitter gourd with salted eggs.”
“Okay,” nodding with a smile, my father went into the kitchen where my mom was.
After a little while, Novelle’s footsteps came rushing down.
“Big brother, I think there’s something wrong with Liliath,” she said with a grim expression.
Something happened?
“I’ll go check, call father just in case.. I don't know if we need to send her to hospital..”
I have a premonition..
Rushing to the room Liliath was in, I saw her struggling to breathe. Sweat all over her forehead while moaning as if in pain.
“Are you alright?” I asked, a little flustered. She doesn’t look alright at all..
“H-help…” her words hit like a truck.. quite literally.
Yeah.. she’s seriously in pain. What the hell.
“Her condition is worse, isn’t it?” my father who came into the room asked.
“Yeah.”
“To the hospital it is then.” sighing, he added, “Novelle, help me open the car door, Noel, help me support her.”
Following his instructions, with her arms around me and my father, we descended the stairs and then laid her down in the car.
“Take care,” my mom said with a worried tone as she sent us off.
Liliath continued to moan as if in pain. I sat in the back seat together with her, father driving in front.
“We’re almost there.. just bear a little longer..”
I honestly had no idea what to really say. I’m not the one sick here so.. I can't really say I understand the pain she’s feeling.
“Noel..” Her small hands grabbed mine.
Cold.
This.. was too sudden.
[58]
Pulling the car into the parking lot, my father first contacted doctor Trisha via his phone. After which, we supported Liliath into the main lobby where she waited.
“This is bad,” the doctor grimaced.
Instructing us with a follow-up, we brought Liliath to a private hospitalization room with a number of machines hanging around. It was a single room that looked like the kind used by big shots you would see in dramas. Furnished with a small table, couches and indoor plants.
We were asked to wait outside while the doctor examined Liliath’s condition.
Sitting on the bench with my father beside me, I waited in silence.
“This isn't a coincidence isn't it..” I said.. not particularly to anyone since my mood had hit rock bottom.
I totally wasn't expecting this. It’s not every day someone close to you gets hospitalized you know?
I don't really know how to put this feeling into words— dread? Was this dread? Liliath won't die, right?
Heroines don’t die, right?
Calm down Noel. There must be some logical explanation to this..
But what if there isn't one?
Taking what my father said into account, what if Liliath’s arrival cities the start of a story-like setting? Like how a protagonist’s story starts when they are thrown into an ‘isekai’? Could my TALENT be something like that? Having me go through these sorts of ups and downs— the nonsensical drama where I, the protagonist, has to go through a bunch of emotional roller coasters?
What is my TALENT?
“Maybe,” I bit my lips.
“Noel, heads up.”
“Hm?”
I reacted just in time to catch the package my father threw at me. Food, sushi?
“You haven’t eaten yet haven’t you?” he sat beside me, sipping his can of coffee he probably bought from some vending machine.
“Ah. yeah. Thanks..”
Right.. what time was it? 8 o’clock? How long has it been since Liliath was admitted? The doctor hadn’t come out of the room.
“I understand you’re having a hard time but… you gotta still eat you know? Overthinking doesn't really help anything.” My father advised with a smile.
Yeah. It’s not just me.. everyone is having a hard time too huh? Liliath, being the one in the worst position.
I opened the packet of sushi. Disposable bamboo chopsticks were included— reminding me that Liliath still cheats her way with chopstick etiquette.
“By the way, Liliath can use magic right? Can’t she heal herself?”
“Apparently, it doesn't work that way in her world..”
I stuffed the sushi in my mouth and chewed on it.
Tasteless.
Bland.
Tears.
Yeah.. emotions affect taste a lot.
“Wow, Noel. Get a grip of yourself.” my father said in an astonished tone.
Wiping my tears with the sleeve of my shirt, I replied, “I know..”
I’m weak. Really weak… how deplorable..
Unlike Liliath or my father, my emotions are easily swayed by external events. I understand emotions are emotions and that external events aren't the main cause of emotions..
My father taught me this analogy once:
If a plate of delicious food was presented to you, it would make you hungry— If, you were hungry. If that same plate of food was presented to you when you were full— you probably won't feel hungry.
Food represents the ‘external events’ while hunger represents one’s ‘emotions’.
Food isn't the root cause, hunger is— emotions are the root cause.
Though the presentation of food makes the hunger worse, it wouldn’t be otherwise if the hunger was solved.
That said… I can't help it.
This premonition...
Liliath won't die— right? She’ll be alright.. right? Right?
A heroine won't just die like that right?
Finishing my meal, doctor Trisha came out of the room to tell us that her condition was stabilized. As of the moment, she said she can’t be sure if her diagnosis was correct but— it had something to do with Liliath’s lack of immunity against pathogens.
In any case, we were allowed to visit her in the room. Well— visiting hours were limited to 10 pm usually but for whatever reason, the doctor said that we can stay with her for the night.
My father and I locked gazes.
What did this mean?
Liliath was sleeping on bed, her dress had been changed to a pale green hospital gown.
An IV drip attached to her wrist; a tube connected to her nose, a machine reading her heartbeat and breathing; she was sleeping soundly.
“Her condition is unusual, and may fluctuate from time to time so if you see any abnormality, don't hesitate to press the call bell. The nurses will come every now and then to check in on her condition.”
“Doctor, is it normal for patients to be admitted to a single room? No right?” my father asked.
I’m sure he’s thinking about the hospital bills. At least— that’s what I guessed. The bills should be a pretty hefty one.
“It was arranged beforehand, in a way— you could say I was specially assigned to deal with your case…” doctor Trisha said in a faraway tone, “It’s a government secret, anyways, it’s my duty to make sure she recovers.”
“Government secret huh? How sketchy..”
Doctor Trisha flattened her lips, it looked like a meek smile.
Watching Liliath sleeping, it wasn't long before my mom and Novelle came into the room. My father had notified them of Liliath’s condition and with the second car, they drove over.
“Big sister will be alright right?” Novelle asked with teary eyes.
“I’ll do the best I can for her recovery,” the doctor said with a smile.
“Ah, you two haven’t eaten right?”
“I got something for Noel a little while ago?”
“How about yourself dear?”
“I had my fill with coffee.. plus, I’m not really in the mood to eat anyways.”
“Please take care of yourself too dear.”
“Got it, got it.”
My mind was blank. Just because Liliath’s condition is stable currently doesn’t mean she’s safe.. yet. Anything can happen.
“Noel.”
“Hm?”
“I can understand your sentiments as a summoner but please be at ease, she’ll be fine,” the doctor asserted.
“Yeah.. thank you doctor..”
Her remarks.. it helps.. I guess? I’m a little bit more relieved.. in a sense.. maybe.
I’m too confused to really say I'm alright in an emotional sense.
===
“Stay safe, good night, I’ll come back again tomorrow morning,” my father said, holding the little depressed Novelle’s hand.
“Good night, safe driving.”
“Good night, see you tomorrow.”
And with that, they left for home.
It was getting late, my sister was drifting off to sleep. It was decided that my mom and I will stay back in the hospital to watch out for Liliath.
I couldn’t really bring myself to return.. I'm grateful my parents took that into consideration. Really grateful..
I can't believe myself.. I’m.. I’m responsible for this right?
But there’s nothing I can do about this right?
These sorts of thoughts assailed me as I continued watching Liliath in her sleep.
I wonder how she is doing? I wonder what she’s dreaming about?
Novelle did tell me before that when Liliath first arrived, she had nightmares almost every night.
Though I never questioned Liliath about what she saw— it had to be something really painful.
Liliath will be alright..
Right.. I have to believe that everything will turn out alright.
I closed my eyes.
[59]
Weakness, fatigue.
All sorts of negative ailments stacked upon my body.
I never thought diseases would be this dreadful.
It started with a cough. Then a persistent pain in the throat, followed by a sluggish body. Then a fever.
Before I could make sense of it all, I fell into anguish.
With a tube inside my nose and the occasional beeps in the distance, I looked up at the unfamiliar ceiling.
It was dark, an orange lamp illuminated this unusual space. The ‘hospital’?
I tried to get up, failing to do so due to my current, weak constitution.
How could this happen?
Why this pain?
Demon lords possess incredible recovery, don't they? So why?
Why?
“You’re awake, Morning Liliath, how are you feeling?” feeling the tears slide down my cheek, I heard Diana-sama’s voice.
“Better,” I gasped.
This was a disease, not a curse, yet… for it to progress to this sort of stage..
With all my might, I desperately turned my body towards the direction of the couch.
There, I saw Noel sleeping in an uncomfortable position. I hope he won't acquire back pains once he awakens from his sleep.
“You’ll be alright Liliath, the doctor is here to treat you.” Diana-sama consoled, caressing my hair and forehead. Through the warmth of her touch, I realized that her words were meant to console herself also.
I nodded with what little energy I had left in my body.
As I was about to close my eyes and fall back into slumber, I heard a ring, then appeared in front of me the status window for the ‘Special Quest’.
It seems a week had passed.

“Liliath?”
“Imminent death..” I whispered, asserting a tone of remorse. My voice grew weaker by the second, consciousness fading.
It was apparent.
I was going to die.
===
In a space that was like a vast expanse of a red void, somewhere in the distance I made out two silhouettes.
Loosening an ephemeral sigh, I approached the two.
Liliath, the part of myself that was weak, but caring and gentle, was bound to a black throne. The other Liliath, horns growing from her head, eye posing a domineering glint, was my cunning but strong self.
“Cut it out,” I admonished.
Demon lord Liliath stopped and turned to me with a slack expression. Meek Liliath, likewise, looked at me, trembling.
“Say~ what do you want, me?” demon lord Liliath queried.
“You already know the answer to it don’t you?”
“How deplorable,” she sneered, “Do you truly think there's anything we can do about it?”
“Don’t want to.. I don’t want to die..” meek Liliath cried out softly.
“I myself cannot be so sure of it, however, I presume it’s best to have a contingency plan.. to put it in other words, I suggest a meeting.”
“Sweety, that would be quite a boring meeting don’t you say? I want to spend the rest of my limited time playing with my sweetheart here~” demon lord Liliath drawled in a sweet tone.
Meek Liliath cried out in fear.
“What is your opinion, regarding the matter, me? If.. it was true that death is upon us?”
“My opinion, you say? I suppose— I'm grateful. We had a moment of bliss before death. It’s a rather good deal considering the fact that we should’ve died back in our own world.”
“How about you?” I asked the other Liliath.
“I-I don't want to die.. why must we d-die.. why can't we just live peacefully— hiikhh?!”
“Stop that.”
“Oh sweetheart, don't be scared, I’ll always be here with you— even after death,” whispering the last few words, demon lord Liliath clung to the meek Liliath, caressing her skin.
Pondering the matter while observing their frolic— If death is the only outcome then, I can only ask the heavens to give me a quick and painless one.
But was that truly the outcome? It was too abrupt of a judgement.
I swept my hands forward, both Liliath were pulled away, forced to sit in chairs separated by a long gloss black triangular table.
“What now—” the Liliath with four horns groaned, annoyed that she had been separated from her prey.
I sat down on the last, unoccupied chair, bent forward and placed my chin above my palm.
“Next question. What do you think about Noel?
“Noel? Isn’t he my vessel? What more is there you need to ask about him?”
“D-don’t kill hiiim.. Noel shouldn’t die..”
Shaking my head in resignation, I realized that both Liliaths had varying opinions. As the demon lord Liliath said, Noel, is a vessel, a catalyst required to achieve our goal. At the same time, I cannot deny the other Liliath’s plea to protect his life.
I should’ve known that I've grown emotionally attached to him somewhat. I should take note of this.
“How about you? Your opinion about Noel? A confession of truth, we can't consider Noel our beloved just yet can we now?” demon lord Liliath said with a slack voice as she sipped on a wine glass filled with blood.
“It’s hard to put into words.. My intuition is telling me that it’s too soon to confess something like love. Then, what does the task require me to do in the first place?”
Meek Liliath raised her hands at my remark.
“Yes? Speak.”
“B-be honest..? T-true feelings d-don't necessarily have to be a love confession,” she said.
“True, true,” I nodded to myself.
No matter how I think about this, I have been indebted to them. There was nothing I could do to repay their kindness. I lack knowledge, skills and information to properly contribute to anything in their life.
Perhaps.. just perhaps. All I want— is to contribute just a little, the last contribution I make to this life of mine before it ends.
“You got your answer sweety? Your expression cleared up for us to see?” demon lord Liliath asked.
“I suppose I have found my answer,” standing up, I put two hands on the table while bending forward.
“Great, now, grant me the permission to play with my dear sweetheart?” as she spoke, meek Liliath started shedding tears, shaking her head in retort, “Time is limited, now—”
“Permission denied, from hereon, I will end the meeting.”
This may very well be the last time I get this opportunity to work out my emotions. This stifling feeling in my heart— I understand wherever fate brings is inevitable— it just won't go away..
===
I raised my eyelids, realizing that the room was now lit in white. I turned to the first person that greeted me— Noel.
“Morning,” he spoke with a fake smile. “How are you feeling?”
I was surprised that I could feel myself— surprised that I could move.
This is, I suppose, the calm before the storm. It will lighten up at one point, bringing enlightenment for a few brief moments before plunging back into the abyss— I thought somehow.
“A bit better?” I said in a not-too-sure tone. I managed to get myself up into a sitting position.
“Hopefully,” Noel muttered in a pained voice.
I tilted my head.
Does he know? Seeing his reaction, it would be so. Perhaps his Special Quest, like mine, mentions of the limited time I have left.
“It’s alright Noel. Everything will be alright,” I smiled, clasping his hands between mine.
“Liliath.. why.. no.. I will definitely find a way.. there has to be a way..” Noel said, looking down at my hand. He placed his other hand atop mine and squeezed it.
There has to be a way..
“Noel, you ought to be resolved to face the inevitable,” I giggled.
“Why.. hey Liliath.. how can you be so calm,” his hands were shivering, his eyes hinting dismay.
Just as I was about to continue, a person wearing a white uniform came in with a tray of food.
“How are you feeling Liliath?” she asked with a smile.
“Slightly better,” returning a smile of my own.
“Now, I don't mean to interrupt your intimate moment but do you mind if I ask you two separate for a bit?” to her request, I had come to realize that her smile was a thirsty, cunning one. Like a maiden starved of love.
Though.. I suppose that isn't the main issue as I continued to stare at her befuddle before turning to Noel who was desperately trying to tear his hand away from my grasp in a flustered state.
Ah..
Feeling heat rush to my head, I released his hand and rolled into a hugging position, burying my head into my knees— but I was prevented from doing so.
“Now, please take these medication, do them one by one alright?”
She presented me with what seemed to be an assortment of multicolour pills, most of them white, with a smile. I felt a chill down my spine.
Obediently, I swallowed the pill with water— the proper way.
“Remember to eat alright? Even if you don't feel like eating, so as to prevent your stomach from hurting,” she advised before rushing out of the room.
Recollecting my thoughts, the food presented in front of me was placed on top of a board supported by the side rails of the bed. Congee with some additional dishes to the side. It included a drink in a packaging that looked like milk?
Noel was still sitting close to my bed, though, his gaze was still affixed to the door. No, affixed to his status window.
“Where are the rest of your family, Noel?”
“My family? Ah, right, about that, they went out for breakfast.”
“Breakfast? How about you?”
“I decided to stay back..” his voice trailed off into silence. “Hey Liliath, is there anything you wish for?”
“???”
His question came as a surprise. I looked away to ponder— towards the window— the view of the blocky city through the city in the morning light—
I turned back to him and in a serious voice, I asked him, “Feed me.”
“Wuah?”
“Feed.. me. That’s what I wish for.”
That was the best idea could come up with in this situation. Noel might not be able to handle the guilt of my passing when the time comes.. if I said nothing. This much should help ease the emotional pain, albeit a little.
“S-seriously?” he said with a crooked smile.
“It’s alright if you don’t want to,” I pouted.
“Alright, alright my princess,” he laughed.
And to his words, I felt the tear in my heavy heart widen a little more.
Do I really have to die?
Will I actually die?
Do I want to die?
“Liliath? Liliath? Earth to Liliath, hello?”
“S-sorry!”
Realizing I had fallen into a trance with Noel calling out to me, a spoon in his hand, I responded in haste.
“Here, o-open your mouth,” he held the food up to my mouth.
Smiling, I gladly accepted his feeding.
“Thak, U.”
“Sheesh, really now.. what should I do,” Noel said half-sighing, digging into the congee before bringing another spoon to my mouth.
This repeated several times over.
Nothing spoken, merely the moment of his hand and my mouth.
“Noel.”
“Yes?”
“My turn.”
“Hm?”
“Let me feed you,” snatching the spoon from his hand, I scooped the congee and brought it up to his mouth.
Nononononono.. there’s no way I could possibly allow Noel to do all this without giving back. I’ve already incurred a debt that could never be repaid.
Moreover, Noel hadn’t eaten breakfast?
“No.. Liliath.. seriously?! I-I can't!”
I pouted, resolved to complete my task.
“Fine,” he relented.
Presenting his open mouth, I shoved the congee into his mouth.
“How is it?”
“It’s good… It’s..”
He wiped his tears with the sleeve of his shirt.
“Noel.”
“W-what is it..”
“Thank you. I understand that I'm in no position to say this as I could never repay your family and your kindness.. that said... Thank you. Thank you for everything.”
My confession. The true feelings that reside in my heart.
“What are you s-saying..”
Ding.
‘Liliath’s Special Quest Completed.’
Noel lifted his hands away from his face, staring at me in disbelief.
“There. My last contribution. It’s not much, but I hope you spend it properly,” I said, tears having formed in my eyes.
“Say that again?” Noel blinked at me.
“My last contribution,” quickly wiping away the tears.
“No, not that, the latter half.”
I tilted my head, “Spend it properly?”
For a moment I saw his face brighten up before turning ghastly pale.
“T-That’s it.. why am I so dumb. Why in the fuck did I not think of that sooner!” he pulled on his hair.
“N-Noel? Stop it, stop it, you’ll hurt yourself.”
Confused by his statement, I tried to calm him down, but it was taken aback by the look in his eyes.
“I-I got it..”
Something about it lit a flame of hope within me.

Fuck. You’ve got to be kidding me?!
There’s no fucking way I’ll let Liliath die.. no fucking way..
No..
But how.. what can I do about this?
Crawling up from my couch, my spine screaming at me because of my shitty sleeping posture last night, I shook my mom awake.
The time was around 6 am, through the window, the sky was dyed an orange hue.
“Good morning?” she yawned.
“Good morning, mom I..”
Then I stopped.
Shit. I just realized. I can’t tell her, can I now? No, rather, I need to say it. That way, it would be easier to come up with a solution but— but instincts are yelling at me to not say it..
FUCK.
“Liliath is going to die,” I squeezed each word out of my mouth.
“Come again?”
“Status window open,” I pointed at the screen. She read it hastily.
“Are you.. sure?”
“That means there has to be a way to save her,” I said optimistically— despite the pessimism corrupting my mind.
There has to be a way.
The system already says it’s possible, if not, I don't think such a quest would appear to begin with. More so, who would let the heroine die right?
“I’ll call the doctor.”
“Mom, remember, you can't tell anyone about this system..”
“But it’s correlated to Liliath’s life?”
“I know but.. if this gets out and Liliaths does survive..”
“Alright,” she groaned. “I’ll call the doctor.”
My mom went outside with her phone, she probably got the contact number of doctor Trisha. Since it’s not an emergency, I don’t think it’s all that appropriate to use the call bell in the hospital.
Anyhow, looking towards the bed, Liliath was lying in rest with shallow breaths. The IV drip bag was half-empty.
If anything, she looks like she’s getting better, the machines aren't detecting any weird, life-threatening signs. But, the system quest says otherwise.
“There has to be a way..” I pulled a chair over and sat beside the bed.
Even though it’s like this, she’s still beautiful. Her velvet hair, fluttery eyelashes. God damn, what am I even thinking at this sort of time. Think Noel. Think. What could possibly save Liliath. And why the hell does her condition seem stable?
Doctor Trisha came in and checked Liliath’s condition. Her comment was that Liliath was steadily recovering, her condition today looked to be better than yesterday.
Seriously though?
I doubted my ears when I heard that. The doctor had to persuade us quite a bit.
“Noel, what if it’s the kind of timer where other factors, depending on what we do, can extend or reduce the countdown?”
“And an example?”
“For example, taking away the IV drip or the doctors help. Maybe taking medicine can help increase the time or— could be the answer to the situation. In that sort of way,” my mom tried to explain.
I kinda get what she’s trying to say, it’s worth a shot. Maybe calling out to the doctor raises her awareness and thus increases the time limit..
My father and little sister Novelle came to the hospital to check on Liliath. My mom didn’t tell them about my special quest. You know.. to not create a panic here. She’ll probably talk about it outside the room. Liliath can’t find out about this either.
“Are you sure Noel?”
“Yeah, it’s fine, I'll look after Liliath.”
“Alright, then we’ll get you something to eat later, careful alright?”
I nodded.
“Big sister Liliath will be alright.. right?” Novelle, biting her lips beside me, asked in worry.
“I’m sure she would be alright,” I caressed her hair.
Novelle nodded before following them down for breakfast.
Now..
What can I do?
What is the answer to this?
I pondered..
Damn it. There has to be something.
Call the doctor and give her some exceptional medicine? Have the nurse stationed to look after Liliath’s vitals 24/7?
It’s still ticking, and it’s not stopping.
The sound of rustling bedsheets brought me back to reality.
Liliath— woke up. Her clear crimson eyes stared into mine.
“Morning, how are you feeling?”
“A bit better?” She answered dubiously. Cute.
“Hopefully,” I muttered with doubt.
“It’s alright Noel. Everything will be alright,,”
My hands were suddenly clasped around hers. Soft, warm..
It stings.. knowing that she could die.. and that I have no clue how to prevent it.. fuck.. why.. why..
“Liliath.. why.. no.. I will definitely find a way.. there has to be a way..” I placed my other hand on top of her’s.
Who am I kidding— these words to console Liliath.. it more like I'm trying to console myself.
But there has to be a way.. right? The system is basically forewarning me of a future I can prevent.
“Noel, you ought to be resolved to face the inevitable,” I heard Liliath giggled.
“Why.. hey Liliath.. how can you be so calm.”
No, I already know why. Liliath had been through hell. That’s why, to her, death may even be better than living— that is, if she were still in her world. But she isn't, she’s in mine. A world of peace, a world without war, a world she can start anew.
The door of the room opened and a nurse came in with a tray of Liliath’s breakfast.
I saw her look in my direction, then at my hand placed it on top of Liliath’s. It all happened in a fraction of a second before she turned to Liliath with a smile.
Oh.. shit.
I tried to pull my hands away but Liliath— damn it Liliath.. let go! Her grip strength was literally demon lord certified.
“Now, I don't mean to interrupt your intimate moment but do you mind if I ask you two separate for a bit?” the nurse asked. Is it just me or does the room feel rather chilly?
“Ah..” Liliath leak such a mutter. She locked eyes with me.
And in the next second, pulled back her hands and hugged her knees.. or not. The nurse intervened.
Afterwards, she arranged the food on the cardiac table built into the bed. She then walked over to the nearby shelf and took out some medicine, prescribing it to Liliath based on the notes.
“Remember to eat alright? Even if you don't feel like eating, so as to prevent your stomach from hurting,” the nurse advised before leaving.
It was a moment of awkwardness.
Yeah..
Wait, Liliath ate the medicine.. the timer.. didn’t change..
Shit.. my mom’s hypothesis was wrong. What the hell.
So does it have to be me then? What can I do?
“Where is the rest of your family, Noel?” Liliath called out, breaking the silence.
“My family? Ah, right, about that, they went out for breakfast,” I wanted to forget what I saw. I wanted to believe Liliath wouldn't die..
“Breakfast? How about you?”
“I decided to stay back..”
But no matter how I try to push it to the corner of my mind— it just..
“Noel?”
“Hey Liliath, is there anything you wish for?”
I don't know why or how, this question just popped inside my mind.
Liliath averted her gaze for a while before returning her reply.
“Feed me.”
“Wuah?”
Feed me? As in, me feeding you?
“Feed.. me. That’s what I wish for.”
“S-seriously?” Oh wow. How nice.
“It’s alright if you don’t want to.” she pouted.
“Alright, alright my princess,” I laughed. I totally didn’t expect this request, not to mention her reaction.
Why the hell.. she’s so calm..
I scooped the porridge and brought it to her mouth— she was staring into the air.
Perhaps she’s only calm on the outside. I wouldn’t know what she’s thinking inside her heart, would I now?
“Liliath? Liliath? Earth to Liliath, hello?”
“S-sorry!” as if she was shocked with electricity, she replied.
“Here, o-open your mouth,” I brought the food to her mouth.
She ate it with a smile.
“Thak. U.”
Don’t speak when eating. That was what my mom would say if she saw this.
“Sheesh, really now.. what should I do,” I questioned myself.
Continuing to feed her without exchanging another word, I only felt remorse build up inside of me.
Was Liliath aware of her death? She looked like she was aware of it though..
“Noel.”
“Yes?”
“My turn.”
“Hm?”
“Let me feed you,” she snatched the spoon from my hand, scooping the porridge, she brought it to my mouth.
— with a troubled expression on her face..
“No.. Liliath.. seriously?! I-I can't!”
Her expression changed to one of obstinacy. Pouting, she was relentless with this request of hers.
“Fine.”
Why..
“How is it?”
“It’s good… It’s..”
Why..
There has to be a way right?
All of this.. Liliath was already preparing to die, wasn't she? Being so proactive to feed me and such..
I hid my face, wiping away the tears that had condensed in my eyes.
“Noel.”
“W-what is it?”
I struggled to speak.
“Thank you. I understand that I'm in no position to say this as I could never repay your family and your kindness.. that said... Thank you. Thank you for everything.”
I don’t get it..
“What are you s-saying..”
Ding.
‘Liliath’s Special Quest Completed.’
Her expression was akin to a mother looking at her own child. Me, a child, she, a mother..
This wasn’t right..
“There. My last contribution. It’s not much, but I hope you spend it properly,” tears fell from her eyes as she said.
I felt that something clicked.
“Say that again?”
“My last contribution,” she spoke after wiping her tears, flustered.
“No, not that, the latter half.”
“Spend it properly?”
Spend it properly..
Points..
Quests..
Systems..
Shop..
Fuck—
“T-That’s it.. why am I so dumb. Why in the fuck did I not think of that sooner!” I pulled at my hair out of frustration.
“N-Noel? Stop it, stop it, you’ll hurt yourself.”
I looked Liliath in the eye.
“I-I got it..”
[61]
“Where is it..”
I had to find my parents somewhere around the hospital and have them bring me back home because, dumb me— I left my phone at home.
Now in the car driving towards the hospital once again, I scrolled through the app, scouring for an item called ‘elixir’.
I already know that there’s an item called ‘basic disease immunity (permanent)’ that’s an instant version of a vaccine— based on what the descriptions says, at least. Another item would be elixir, or rather, that was what Liliath told me to get after having a hasty discussion with her.
Damn it—
Fuck.
The answer to this quest was so simple all along.. why didn’t I think of this earlier?
There were a number of different options.
Based on what Liliath told me, a small quantity of the liquid is potent enough to cure basically anything. And the smallest possible amount is one super small vial of 5 drops.
5 freaking drops. And it costs 500 points.
Whatever. For the sake of Liliath’s life, this isn't worth much at all.
“Noel, are you done?”
My father called my name from the front seat of the car.
Tap.
And held the vial of elixir in my hand.
“Alright, let’s go.”
Both items are in vial form, one larger than the other.
===
“A blood test is being sent to the lab to assess her condition, after that we’ll decide on the treatment plan,” that was the first thing I heard when I entered Liliath’s hospitalization room.
“Noel!” My mom looked at me with a frantic expression.
“I got it, I got it.”
On the bed was Liliath but— with an oxygen mask on her face.
I felt my heart sink.
Calm down Noel, calm down. Liliath still has a few more hours..
Novelle tugged at my clothes.
I nodded at her to tell her that it’s going to be alright.
I took out the elixir.
She stared at it.
By the way, the elixir has a beautiful aquamarine-cyan colour, sometimes refracting a tint of gold or mint blue. I kinda wanna drink it but.. ladies first.
The doctor narrowed her eyes on the elixir in my hand.
“Can you give this to her, right now?”
“What is that?”
“It’s called elixir. It’s something from the world she came from.”
Doctor Trisha glanced at the vial and then at Liliath.
“Please,” I pleaded.
“And where did you get such an item?”
Great. I knew she’d ask.
“Ask Liliath, not me.”
Well.. I’m not lying, right?
Ugh, damn it, this isn’t going anywhere.
I pushed the vial into the doctor’s hand.
“I’m not taking responsibility if she dies from this liquid, are you sure about this?” she gritted her teeth.
Is that supposed to be a threat?
“Just give it to her, please.. She needs to ingest it. I don't know if injecting it directly into her is a good idea.”
“Nurse Colyn, support Liliath to a semi-fowlers.”
The nurse nodded.
Wearing gloves, the doctor then removed the mask, opening the vial of elixir, she then poured it into Liliath’s mouth.
From the sideline— if you look at it… It was a pretty ‘professional’ sight of administering oral medicine. I was thinking the typical ‘anime’ way to go about it was for the protagonist to hold it in his mouth and then french-kiss the heroine.
But— this is real life.
And if you asked me if I wanted to do so, my reply would be fuck off.
Liliath’s body seemed to glow in my eyes, her ragged breathing slowed to a normal pace and her complexion regained normalcy.
Ding.
‘Noel’s Special Quest Completed.’
“Elixir, was it?” doctor Trisha, turned to me.
“Yeah..”
The quest was completed so that means..
I turned to my mom and gave a nod, and a smile.
My mom who was at her wits end, loosened her shoulders and fell on my father’s shoulder where he soothed her.
“Big brother, L-Liliath is going to okay.. right?”
“She’s going to live,” I said.
“I’ll have to report this, do you mind? Nurse Colyn, please monitor her,” Trisha asked.
“Can it be kept as a confidential thing?” I returned her a question.
“In the first place, something like elixir should be declared to the government..”
“Are you alright?!” Nurse Colyn, who was dumbstruck by Liliath’s sudden emergence exclaimed.
“I’m..” Liliath examined herself and let loose a relieved sigh.
She clenched her fist a few times and tried twisting her body
“It’s a miracle drug isn't it?” the nurse asked the doctor in an astonished voice.
“Excuse me, but, could we have a moment with Liliath?” my mom who had recovered requested.
“Alright,” the doctor checked the machine with her vitals first— healthy signs, expressing a little dismay before leaving the room.
The moment the door shut, I took out the second vial and brought it to Liliath.
“Are you alright?”
“Big sister Liliath is alright, right? How are you feeling?”
She averted her eyes, biting her lips.
“Drink this first.”
Nodding silently to my words, she downed the liquid in the vial, the ‘basic disease immunity (permanent)’ serum.
After which she coughed.
“The taste is awful..” Liliath commented.
“Water, here,” Novelle, who was quick to react, passed her the bottle.
“Thank you..”
Liliath drank the water timidly.
“So, how are you feeling Liliath?” My mom asked.
“A lot better.. elixir can cure almost any disease or injury, large quantities of it can even restore lost limbs..” Liliath explained, tears started to condense in her eyes, “And— I thought I was going to die.”
“Big sister..” Novelle crawled onto the bed and hugged Liliath.
“We’re lucky. You sure have an OP TALENT Noel,” my father said.
“Yeah..”
Honestly, I'm surprised at my stupidity. I don't really understand what I should be feeling right now. Relief? Regret? Confusion?
I let loose my tense shoulders and hung my head.
At least..
—I managed to save Liliath’s life..
[62]
Now, the problem regarding elixir… since I've revealed something like a miracle drug in front of a doctor, there’s no doubt they would ask Liliath about the source.
As such, Liliath and I intend to lie about the fact that she brought it together with her during the summoning.
Of course, we lied saying that that was the only vial she brought since something like elixir is super rare.
Then comes the problem if we were to confess our words to someone who can detect lies..
Well, at least, my mom managed to strike up an agreement with doctor Trisha and Nurse Colyn regarding the elixir. Since it was dangerous for people to learn about such a thing, they were to keep it a secret with the basis being— acting with Liliath’s best interest in mind. Of course, it was inevitable this news had to be to reported it to the people above.
In any case, the situation was solved and now I’m sitting beside Liliath’s bed with Novelle munching on an apple slice.
“Food fed by big sister is the best,” Novelle confessed, sorta..
I’m guessing it’s more to do with the fact that my little sister is hungry than this notion that Liliath has a magical touch? Just maybe.
That said, I do kinda agree with Novelle.
Father and mom left the room in search of a place to eat dinner. Novelle and I decided to stay back to watch over Liliath, and in a sense, she understood how important it is for our parents to go on a date once in a while, especially after such a dramatic event that could’ve been prevented if only I was less stupid. And so, my parents will buy some takeaways for us.
Well, my sister wanted to stay by Liliath, which is also another reason.
Nurse Colyn brought Liliath’s dinner over— and because of how Novelle reacted to her food, Liliath shared an apple slice with her.
“I agree, food fed by Liliath does indeed taste better..”
Wait..
“So do you want an apple slice too?” Liliath tilted her head and asked.
“Something’s fishy.. what did you do during breakfast big brother,” Novelle narrowed her eyes at me.
Shit.
I said that subconsciously didn’t I?
“No.. I don't mean.. I mean.. it is true isn't it?”
“What did you do this morning while I was away—”
The little devil didn’t seem all too convinced and pressed me for answers.
I turned to Liliath and shook my head, and understanding what I meant, Liliath obediently nodded in response. I’m surprised she wasn’t flustered by it at all— cultural differences? Though, in what culture does the action of a girl feeding a boy signify nothing in romance?
“Big sister Liliath, what did big brother do to you?”
“Well, it’s more accurate to say I did to him than what he did to me..”
Oi.. Liliath.. you aren’t going to sell me out now?!
“I confessed, my feelings.”
“Huh?” my little sister stared at her with fuzzy eyes.
Ah, right, Liliath confessed.
Wait, she confessed? Confessed what?
“Could it be that my words have been misunderstood?” Liliath’s gaze paced between mine and my sister’s stare. “You see, my special quest for this week was to confess my true feelings to Noel.”
Liliath muttered something under her breath and her status window appeared.

Hm? I can actually read this. Oh, so it’s possible to read Liliath’s Special Quest once it has been completed.
Hold up.. confess her true feelings?
Is there something I'm not getting here? Did Liliath confess to me?
Novelle turned to me with a death glare.
“Wait a sec, maybe it’s not THAT kind of confession you know?” I said in defence. I was sure Liliath said something along the lines of ‘thank you for everything’ before the ‘ding’ occurred.
Huh. So that means Liliath doesn't have a crush on me huh?
Ouch, that felt like a mental punch to the gut.
“As Noel has said.. I’m grateful for everything. I should also offer my thanks to you Novelle, thank you and your family for everything. I am indeed undeserving of all this yet, I have been bestowed it all. There’s nothing I can repay you with,” Liliath showed a bitter smile.
Novelle, who shifted her focus back to Liliath with a surprising frown.
“Liliath, I’ll say this as me, as in, the authentic me. If repaying us is measured in materialism, please don't give it to us. If you’re serious about repaying our kindness, then cheer up and be the happy Liliath we all know and love.”
Liliath and I stared at Novelle.
“Noel, for a while I've thought that your sister was a genius in concealing her true self, I never thought it was to this degree..”
“Agreed. That’s why you can't be fooled by her innocence. She’s the devil I tell you.”
“You two! I was just voicing out my thoughts!”
Liliath and I laughed at her retort.
“Thank you Novelle. Your words mean so much to me. I will definitely do my best to meet your expectations,” Liliath said with a smile.
Novelle who looked like steam was coming out of her head nodded with a furrowed brow.
Well, that’s my little sister alright.
Smart and cunning.
My family’s little devil.
===
Well.
Even though I spent close to 800 points, after rounding up the rewards, we round up with a remainder of around 500 points. That’s relieving. That tiny amount of elixir cost 500 points, the anti-disease serum from the starter page, around 300 points.
“I didn’t think something as rare as elixir would be this affordable,” Liliath said, showing me the page for the various elixir-related items present.
Affordable huh? I wonder what Liliath thinks of these quests..
Though Liliath might right, 800 points in exchange for her life is relatively cheap.
She’ll be discharged later this evening, the time now being 2 pm, I'm still accompanying Liliath in the hospital.
My mom went home with Novelle, while my father was on an errand. I think he went to the editorial department, complaining that his real name had been leaked out into the public. Well, as popular as that manga was, don't you think it’s too late to be hiding your own name, father? I’m sure many people would want your autograph.
Knock. Knock.
“I’m sorry for interrupting, but Mister Keaton is here to meet you two,” the doctor, Trisha’s muffled voice, echoed.
Uh.. did I just hear a fake cough? I’m pretty sure Liliath and I were at least half a meter apart?
Nodding, Liliath passed me my phone, I immediately shut it off.
I didn't expect Keaton to come personally.. but here goes nothing?
I walked over and opened the door.
“Good to see you again Noel,” Keaton who wore a suit, holding onto a file under his arms bowed. A person who was his subordinate of sorts who stood beside him bowed as well. And that guy was holding a bouquet of flowers?
“Uh, good to see you again mister Keaton..”
Awkward..
“May I enter? I’ve come to visit. How’s Liliath’s condition?
“Yeah, please. Liliath’s gotten better after giving her the elixir.”
To my words, Keaton smiled. Though, I did notice a slight reaction from him when I said the word: elixir.
[63]
“Good to see you are well Liliath, how are you feeling?”
“I am well mister, thank you for your concern.” Liliath waved her hands as if to dismiss Keaton’s remark.
Very princess-like.
“Enoch.”
“Yes sir.”
Keaton’s subordinate placed the flower on the table beside Liliath. I see— there’s a little card there that says ‘get well soon’. How thoughtful.
Though.. our plans had just begun.
Before this, Liliath, being the smart princess and demon lord she was, discussed the risk of the shop function being exposed. Not to the general public but the higher-ups. Trisha had already explained as such.
As such, we came up with a story to explain the matter.
Having a capable princess who knows her stuff is truly a blessing huh?
“Let’s get straight to the point, mister Keaton,” Liliath said, upholding her divine smile.
“And what do you mean by that?” Keaton looked— genuinely confused.. ah, right.. this is the modern world. No wonder Liliath’s absolute manner of speaking makes no sense, rather, her politic-like manner of speech doesn't even sound like modern politicians..
I should have told her to tone down a little. Opps.
“Uh, mister Keaton, just.. well, I know you have questions you want to ask so we just want to get that over with,” I gestured my hands to invite both Enoch and Keaton to sit on the couch.
Liliath sent me a funny look.
Yeah right, princess speech literally destroyed the tension.. sorry for not saying it sooner… we’re not having a meeting.
I sent her an apologetic look in response.
“I think I get a gist of what you're trying to say here,” Keaton sat down on the sofa, leaning against the soft cushion, “About the elixir, first of all, where did you get such a thing?”
“I’ll have Liliath explain that..”
Enoch, who had a bewildered expression, continued to stare at me.
I get it, I get it. You’re weirded out because there’s an actual princess in the room— not that he knows.. or does he know?
Keaton looked towards Liliath in anticipation.
“It was something I brought along with me when I was summoned, does that answer your question?” Liliath said.
“I see— was there anything else you brought along with you? Anything else crossed over to our world?”
Enoch was even more befuddled.
Yup. Crossing worlds, totally didn’t expect that huh?
“The ragged clothes I wore..” Liliath muttered, “Though, it had been disposed of.”
“It’s alright then. And just a side note, the tube that contained the elixir before is sent to the lab for testing, I'm sure you two wouldn’t mind?”
I saw Keaton’s brow flinch a little. Don't tell me he’s interested in that rag too? No fucking way.. no.. in fact, It would make sense wouldn’t it? It might be made of some unknown material. Heck! Why didn’t I think of that?! It could be sold for thousands of dollars!
I killed the voice in my mind, maintaining my stiff, cramped smile.
Damn it, I knew I should've used my brain a little more.. or did my mom not dispose of it yet.. I’ll have to ask her. There’s also that slave collar—
I probably shouldn’t.
“I don't foresee any issues with that. Though, I digress that elixir is something bestowed by the Gods and cannot be procured through ordinary methods.”
“Really?” I asked.
I’m surprised I even asked. Maybe this would make the play more realistic.
“Yes,” Liliath graced me a diplomatic smile.
I slap my hand to my face. Gosh darn, we aren’t in some kind of official meeting for gosh sake. I couldn’t help but hit myself.
“Next on the agenda. Enoch, please introduce yourself.”
“Yes sir,” Enoch stood up and gave a gentlemanly bow. “My name is Enoch. My TALENT allows me decipher another person’s TALENT into tangible words.”
“Well, every student starting from this year has to go through his screening, but please be informed that the information won't be improperly divulged and be kept in all secrecy,” Keaton supplemented.
“Okay.. so that means you can tell what my TALENT is?”
That’s… surprising.
“To explain again,” Enoch’s voice was the sharp, freshman kind of tone. He looked like he just graduated or something, barely 20 years old in my eyes. “My TALENT allows me to put into words the ability of an individual’s TALENT.”
“So I'll ask for your permission here.. though.. your parents are not around?” Keaton looked around. It was apparent I needed to sign some sort of form or get permission.
“I can contact them if needed?”
“It’s just a few forms, I think I'll just pass it to you. Have them sign after confirmation and pass it back to me during school enrollment, no problems with getting a cool name for your TALENT I presume?” Keaton held out the file to me.
“Yup, no problems there.”
School enrollment. Ah right. There’s that too.. I totally forgot..
“So, Enoch, what reading did you get?”
“It’s a surprising one actually.”
“What could it be?” Liliath asked.
Urged by all of us, Enoch spoke.
“Something to do with creation.. and real life?” Enoch said, a finger to his chin and pondering, “I think it can be called, like ‘Manifestation into Reality’. That’s the name I most appropriate for your TALENT.”
Huh?
What?
My mind went blank for a second there.
“Come again?”
“Manifestation into reality. I think that’s the most accurate name I can come up with.”
My TALENT isn’t a gacha app thing? No, rather, I should be surprised that I even had a TALENT. So it’s confirmed, I have a TALENT after all. That’s relieving.. not.
The name of my TALENT sounded like something crazy big somehow..
Manifestation Into Reality?
Huh?
Seriously?
WHat the hEck?
“It might have a large impact on the world.. I think..” Enoch’s voice echoed as we indulged in our stupor. Keaton, like me, showed dismay.
Don't tell me my TALENT could possibly have the potential to destroy the world— that can't be the case can it?
“T-That’s not an error, right? Isn’t my TALENT just a summoning..”
At this rate, wouldn’t all my secrets be unravelled?
Sucks to know but I guess I have no choice..
But there’s a danger to it.. if by any chance they learn that my TALENT has something useful, especially the shop function, I’ll definitely be recruited by the government, just like little Enoch there. Oh, right, I forgot to mention that Enoch is shorter than me— taller than Liliath though.
I want my own freedom..
I gritted my teeth.
“Have you experienced any unusual abilities besides summoning Liliath, Noel?” Keaton, who regained himself, asked.
“Liliath’s sudden illness is one right? And the elixir..”
No.. I can't tell him about it.. not yet.. give me some time to think over my next plan. Should I or should I not reveal it?
“I see. Be sure to report if you learn anything new about your TALENT,” Keaton said in a serious matter-of-fact tone.
“I understand,” I replied while hanging my head.
“Is there anything wrong Noel?” Keaton asked suspiciously.
“Nothing. I just didn’t expect to have this sort of TALENT. I’ll be on watch 24/7 from now on isn’t it?”
“Relax, we don't intend to violate your privacy,” Keaton replied with a shrewd smile.
Yeah right.. I can tell from that smile of yours that you’re hinting at my interaction with Liliath, son of a..
“Next thing on the list, Liliath.”
“Yes?”
“Regarding your education, It seems we would have to decide on an option to deal with that matter. I understand that you are very familiar and well equipped with knowledge in your world, but this world practices a different education system. With this said, can I first hear your opinion regarding how you would like us to help support you in furnishing yourself with the necessary skills from our world?”
“Noel can help out with that, correct?” Liliath gave a ‘normal’ short reply in response.
“So as long as Noel is there huh?” Keaton muttered.
Ugh.. What did you just say Liliath..
“Alright, I guess it’s alright if you study together with Noel is that right? Though, there will be a steep learning curve in the beginning but if that’s your wish then I won't go against it.”
“I never did say that such was my wish, I merely expressed my thoughts about the matter. That said, I will accept the proposal, I intend to give my all in regards to assimilating what I need to know about this world.”
Like shooting bullets at each other, I shifted my gaze between Liliath and Keaton. Was it just me or is Keaton trying to speak like a medieval politician? No.. real medieval politicians wouldn’t speak in this way.. it's the ‘made-up’ and ‘exaggerated’ kings and queens kind of discussions found between the pages of light novels.
“I guess we can end it here.”
“Eh.. what?”
“Let’s go Enoch, thank you for your time Noel and Lady Liliath.”
“Likewise. Thank you for dropping by,” Liliath smiled.
“Uh.. what..”
I felt like I just missed out on a truck ton of information there.. so in the end.. what did they decide on? I had a brain fog.
Welp, I'll know about it when it comes to it..
With them gone, I heard Liliath leak a heavy sigh.
I turned to her to see her staring right back at me with a serious look.
“Yes?”
“It’s a serious matter don't you think? Your abilities are to be exposed if they continue piecing the puzzle pieces together. You mentioned before that you wanted to keep yourself under the shadows?”
“Y-yeah..”
Liliath is quick to the uptake.. I kinda wonder what goes through her head at times like these.. must be some serious shenanigans.
“Doesn’t that put us at risk?” Liliath queried.
“Not really.. it’s more of an emotional thing.. I think? It’s not like we’ll have to enter politics if we were found out, just..”
I couldn’t really think of anything. I myself don't really know why I'm trying to hide my TALENT. In the first place, hiding my TALENT would be much riskier than revealing it? Actually, both have their pros and cons.. Ugh.. I don’t know really.
I guess I should really just tell Keaton about my TALENT huh? It’s inevitable that it will be found out about anyways.
“I think I can understand your sentiments Noel,” Liliath said, “It’s to do with each person’s values, perhaps working for those with high positions, being requested to do tasks against your will due to the responsibility you bear as the individual in possession of a powerful ability.”
Wow… how the heck did Liliath figure that out? I didn’t even say anything?
Liliath smiled wryly at my dumbfounded expression.
“I understand how you feel Noel, I’ve been there myself.”
…
So the hypothesis where Liliath and I have the ability to tacitly understand each other’s thoughts are true huh?
How the heck does that work?
